Benderson Development has announced plans for a major new mixed-use project in Wellen Park, adding a 52-acre commercial district in one of Southwest Florida’s fastest-growing master-planned communities. The development, located along South Tamiami Trail at West Villages Parkway, will bring roughly 500,000 square feet of retail, dining, entertainment and service space to the area in response to booming demand and rapid residential growth. Construction is in the early planning stages with a projected start in late 2026 or early 2027. Benderson says the goal is to create a “first-class regional shopping and dining destination” that complements Wellen Park’s active, outdoor-focused lifestyle, featuring pedestrian-friendly spaces, thoughtful landscaping and a curated mix of national brands, regional operators and local favorites. Wellen Park continues to rank among the top master-planned communities in the nation, and this new project is framed as a long-term investment in the area’s future, enhancing amenities for residents and attracting new visitors and businesses to South Sarasota County.
